Going Virtual — Tips and Tools to Help You Succeed at Your Virtual Internship

virtual internship starter pack

Over the past few weeks I’ve been sharing virtual internship success tips on The Intern Hustle’s YouTube channel. As someone who works from home, I also have a few tools that have become remote work game changers for me. This blog post is your one-stop shop, for all of it.* My tips and tools to help you succeed at your virtual internship.

Virtual Internship Must-Haves

Portable & Adjustable Laptop Desk
If you receive my weekly intern inspo newsletter, then you’re already in the loop on this one. I shared this desk in an email a few weeks back. I love this thing! If you constantly find yourself working from the couch, this portable desk is such a great sidekick. Get it and you’ll no longer find yourself working hunched over, while trying to balance your (overheating) laptop on your lap. (I know I’m not the only one who suffers from laptop lap sweat.) This adjustable desk also works as a great standing desk solution. Just throw it on top of your desk or kitchen table, and you’re ready to go! It’s so functional, and you can grab it here.

Clip-on Ring Light
If you are a virtual intern, you better be ready for allll the virtual meetings. Good lighting makes a big difference for all of those selfies you take, and it is no different for your Zoom meetings. Keep it simple with a rechargeable ring light (like this one) that you can clip on to your computer, tablet or phone.

Aeropress Coffee & Espresso Maker
In my internship essentials blog post earlier this year, I shared my love for coffee and the Aeropress. It makes delicious coffee in no time, and it is only $30! At a virtual internship, you don’t have the benefit of free office coffee, and you’re likely not running around to all of the local coffee shops right now. If you’re a coffee fan, buy yourself an Aeropress. You won’t regret it.

Ember Coffee Mug
Speaking of coffee (or tea, if that’s more your style), are you a reheater? I’m guilty. I reheat my coffee about 3-4 times before I actually get around to finishing it. As you get more involved in tasks and projects at your virtual internship, you may find yourself reheating your hot beverage of choice multiple times as well. That’s why the Ember coffee mug has made the list of virtual internships must-haves. Grab one of these temperature controlled mugs, and never worry about running back to the microwave to reheat your coffee ever again.
